A challenging weekend for Australian riders at Val di Sole, Italy which hosted not only the 4X World Championship but also the cross-country and downhill round of the UCI MTB World Cup.
After qualifying in third for the elite women’s final in the 4X, Australian Harriet Burbidge-Smith finished one place shy of the medals in fourth behind first time winner Romana Labounkova of Czechoslovakia.
In the downhill Tracey Hannah (UR Polygon) was the only Aussie to podium on the nefarious Black Snake course.
The 10 time Australian champion finished fourth behind winner Tahnee Seagrave (Transition Bikes).
The results sees Hannah retain fourth spot overall.
While in the men Troy Brosnan (Canyon Factory Downhill) was the best of the Aussies in 10th with Connor Fearon (Kona Factory Racing) nine places further back.
That will see Brosnan remain third in the overall standings, as the competition now moves to Andorra, the venue the South Australian won at last year.
Turning to the cross-country, Daniel McConnell (Primaflor Mondraker Rotor) finished in 29th in elite men just over four minutes behind winner Nino Schurter (Scott-Sram MTB Racing).
While Rebecca McConnell (Primaflor Mondraker Rotor) was a DNF.
Riders will now head to the south of Spain for another double-header to be held at Andorra, Spain.
