Updated Position On Internatonal Activities

Posted by jo-2, August 17, 2020

On July 24th 2020 MTBA released a position statement on its international competition and development activities for the remainder of 2020. Further to that statement MTBA is now releasing significant updates to that position.

When considering this update, MTBA considered a range of factors including, but not limited to the most up- to-date DFAT position, the current COVID-19 situation in both the host countries and Australia, information from the UCI and event organisers, and the ability of MTBA to appropriately provide for the health and safety
of athletes, staff and the community.

1. MTBA / Cycling Australia will NOT enter any riders in any remaining 2020 UCI World Cup events over which it has entry jurisdiction between now and 31 December 2020. This includes federation and individual entries. Note this does NOT affect riders on UCI listed mountain bike teams.

2. MTBA / Cycling Australia will NOT enter any riders in the 2020 UCI MTB World Championships and the 2020 MTB Marathon World Championships unless they have contractual obligations with a UCI listed mountain bike team.

a. Any riders named in national teams for either of these events are required to be based in
Europe for at least 2 weeks prior and to make their own arrangements with regard to entry
exemptions and quarantine requirements for the countries they intend to travel to. All riders
are responsible for their own quarantine when returning to Australia.

b. MTBA will NOT provide any Australian based staff for either of these events. Any riders named
in national teams for either of these events will need to be solely reliant on their UCI teams for
support. MTBA / Cycling Australia will facilitate entries as required and provide national team
uniform. We strongly recommend all riders undertake their own personal risk assessment of
the situation, and ensure they have support measures and plans in place should they find
themselves in a changed circumstance.

MTBA continues to monitor the global situation and reserves the right to modify its approach to its activities as required at any time prior to the above events running.
