Sam Hill has taken out the Enduro World Series men’s title after finishing third at the last race of the year in Finale Ligure, Italy over the weekend.
All of the individual titles had been decided in previous rounds – except one. The men’s championship race was a straight fight between legendary rider Hill (Chain Reaction Cycles Mavic) and young Frenchman Adrien Dailly (Lapierre).
The Western Australian led throughout day one, but Dailly pushed him to the limit – at one point just three seconds separated the pair. In the end the tough, physical course played to Hill’s strengths to claim his first ever enduro title.
“It was a tough couple of days of racing so I just tried to stay smooth and consistent and put down the best stage times I could.”
“I’ll be back for sure next season. I want to come back and defend that title,” said Hill who was competing in his first full year in the EWS.
Jared Graves (Specialised Racing) would be the only other Australian inside the top 20, while Josh Carlson (GIANT Factory Off-Road) ended the season in 33rd.
