For the third consecutive year Australia’s premier cyclo-cross series will be staged in the Moreton Bay Region.
Baden Powell Park in Samford will host Rounds 5 & 6 of the 2019 National Cyclo-Cross Series across this weekend the 20-21st July.
Australia’s leading CX riders, from juniors to masters, will battle a variety of terrain and obstacles in the quest to win a round of the prestigious national series which runs from June to August.
MTBA CEO Shane Coppin said the Samford venue has always proved a popular one for local and interstate riders.
“There is always something challenging in the design of the race course at Samford which ensures riders come away feeling tested.”
“We appreciate the support from Moreton Bay Regional Council in being able to bring high quality competition to this region of Queensland.”
Spokesperson for Parks, Recreation and Sport Koliana Winchester said council looked forward to welcoming two rounds of the National CX Series.
“Moreton Bay Region boasts a diverse landscape offering some great recreational trail opportunities so it’s not hard to see why Mountain Bike Australia has chosen Samford to hold races in its cyclo-cross series,” she said.
“I know our community will join me in welcoming them to our region for what I expect will be a fantastic, action packed weekend.”
Councillor for Division 11 Darren Grimwade encouraged competitors and their supporters to make the most of their time in the region.
“Why not make the most of the weekend and enjoy some time at the beach or head into the hinterland for some R and R,” he said.
“You’ll be spoilt with choice with plenty of cafes and experiences in stunning Dayboro and Mount Glorious, so make sure you head out and explore Moreton Bay.”
Reigning Australian elite men’s champion Christopher Jongewaard took both rounds last year, while in the women Natalie Redmond and April McDonough shared the spoils.
