Seventeen riders across three disciplines were part of the Mountain Bike Australia Elite Athlete Reward Program in 2019.
The financial program is results based to encourage high level performance and provide some financial support in recognition of the expense of pursuing international competition.
The minimum performance standard to be eligible for support is a top 20 result at the benchmark event.
“This concept was initiated following review of the 2018 World Championships and MTBA’s desire to recognise and assist athletes who achieve significant results and performance at the best events in the world,” said MTBA CEO Shane Coppin.
Athletes shared in over $30,000 collectively determined on a matrix aligned to results.
In 2019 the athletes achieved the results at the UCI MTB World Championships in cross-country and downhill and the Enduro World Series.
This initiative and program will continue and details will be included in the 2020 National Team Selection criteria.
