Ballarat, Victoria is the newest city to hold rounds of the 2019 Mountain Bike Australia Cyclo-Cross National Series.
The city, located in the Central Highlands of Victoria joins last years venues Adelaide, Samford and Melbourne to form part of the nine round series which begins the first weekend of June.
“The crew at #Dirtyratcx are excited to be involved with the National CX Series for 2019,” said race director Paul Crack.
“We’ve cut our teeth with being involved in the VIC CX Series for the past few years and have gained valuable experience around what is required to make the course fun and challenging. Expect our course to be relatively flat and flowing with a few unique obstacles thrown in the mix.”
Ballarat is a large regional city and is an easy commute from Melbourne. The town has plenty to offer visitors in terms of accommodation choices and tourist attractions.
MTBA CEO Shane Coppin said it was pleasing to see new venues become a part of the 2019 national series.
“The addition of a new venue to well established ones just goes to show the growth of cyclo-cross in Australia.”
“We hope riders will enjoy and feel challenged by the variety of courses that are constructed across the nine round series in 2019.”
Port Adelaide Cycling Club will return to host the opening two rounds at their favoured venue Zombie Park.
Three weeks later the CX national series moves to Ballart for the very first time, with riders then heading north for racing in the Queensland winter at the popular Samford course.
While the domestic season is rounded out with the Fields of Joy CX Team and Sunbury Cycling Club again hosting a UCI C2 event at the end of August with a new venue expected to be confirmed.
