National Championships Helmet Information

Posted by jo-2, February 28, 2019

Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) wish to inform all riders who will be competing at the upcoming 2019 National Championships and Oceania Championships in Bright, Victoria they must wear a compliant helmet all of the time while riding their bike.

This applies during competition, practice or commuting to and from their events.

Downhill riders must wear a full faced helmet meeting AS2063 or equivalent standard.

The rule will also apply for competitors in the Oceania Championships, however overseas riders in the UCI categories will be given an exemption from the AS2063 requirement as this is an international event.  Their helmets still need to display a compliance sticker ensuring that the helmet is approved in compliance with an official security standard and that the helmet can be identified as approved.

The main points are as follows:

  •  Bicycle helmets that satisfy the current Australian or equivalent international standards are compulsory in all MTBA sanctioned events.
  •  Helmets must be fastened at all times whilst on a bicycle;
  • Helmets must be in good condition and fit for purpose;
  • All helmets used will be inspected for compliance as determined by the presence of an appropriate compliance sticker.

To ensure all riders comply with the regulations, and their helmet meets current safety standards, helmets will be inspected by a commissaire when riders collect their race plate from the registration desk.
