After two months racing a road bike in the United States, Peta Mullens has returned to Australia on the cyclo-cross bike and taken both rounds of the 2019 MTBA CX National Series in Samford over the weekend.
Mullens, riding for team Focus Attaquer, would battle away on Saturday against current Australian elite women’s champion April McDonough and 2017 national title holder Rebecca Locke for the majority of the six laps.
Stacey Riedel and Jaye Buswell would round out the podium.
It would be a similar result on Sunday with Mullens, Locke and McDonough again on the steps of the podium with Fiona Morris and Buswell also rounding out the minor placings.
In the elite men Saturday, Garry Milburn notched up his third straight win in the series ahead of multiple national champion Christopher Jongewaard and Chris Aitken after nine laps.
Sunday would see Aitken move into the silver medal position with Jongewaard, who is still recovering from surgery in the off-season taking the bronze.
The win for Milburn would see him move further in front in the overall series lead heading into the CX National Championships at King Valley in three weeks.
