Zoe Cuthbert finished two places shy of a podium in the Junior Women’s cross-country race at the 2019 UCI MTB World Championships in Mont Sainte Anne, Canada on Thursday.
The Canberra rider was one of two, along with Corey Smith to back up after Wednesday’s cross-country team relay.
Holding the number seven plate, Cuthbert dropped back to 12th on the first lap before she fought her way into fifth by the second lap and sustained her spot in the field of 48 riders.
Holly Lubcke was the next best of the Aussie girls in 42nd with Emily Wooster 45th and Phoebe Thompson 47th.
Swiss rider Jacqueline Schneebeli took the gold medal.
In the Junior Men a field of 67 lined up, with seven Australians in the mix.
While Charlie Aldridge claimed the rainbow jersey for Great Britan, Piper Albrecht would be the best of the Aussie boys finishing in 40th, two places ahead of Dominic Paolilli.
Nick Chisholm (50), Corey Smith (53), Zach Larsson (54), Cooper Jessen (57) and Liam Johnston (62) rounded out the green and gold results.
