Buchanan Wants A Rainbow Return

Posted by mtba, August 23, 2017

Caroline Buchanan will attempt to win back to back world championship 4X titles in Val di Sole, Italy this weekend.

It’s been a busy and successful year for the Canberra rider as she zero’s in on winning her eighth world crown. She completed the double once before back in 2009 and 2010.

We flicked Caroline a few questions to see how she’s feeling ahead of the event.

Twelve months on and you are back at the scene of your world champs win. Do you wonder where the past 12 months have gone with everything you’ve been doing?
I really was just saying that to Barry…12 months ago he proposed and I won my 7th world title here in Italy. Time flies when your having fun and #livingtheride on 2 wheels!
That night 12 months ago, is it still pretty clear in your mind?
Definitely the race didn’t quite go to plan from The start but I fought my way to the lead and it was a huge relief to perform so soon after turning around my Rio BMX Olympic upset.
This might be a silly question but what do you think of when you see a rainbow? Given what it means in the bike world?
I see beauty in the present moment! The glory of being a world champion lasts for ever but it seems like a short moment the time you can wear the jersey for only one year. I make the most of wearing the rainbow world championship jersey with pride. Just like we all treasure the beauty in the moment we see a rainbow in the sky!
Do you feel that racing Sea otter and Crankworx season this year and taking home the pumptrack title has put you in a better frame of 4x mind and form than say last year, which was Olympic dominated? 100% last year Barry brought my bike from the USA for me to race on and I had not rode it all year! This years preparations has been solid!
You no doubt have a “2017 to do list” how many of them have you ticked off and which ones still yet to tick off?
I’m a girl that doesn’t stop…
This year:
  • Bmx Australian national champion  [tick]
  • Crankworx wins
  • Successful “Living The Ride” Tv show
  • Crankworx series pumptrack title

There have been a few like BMX world champion which I narrowly missed out on by +0.008 of a second in a photo finish! And the overall Queen of Crankworx title was also a goal but Jill Kintner proved to strong this year with myself coming in second place.

Coming away with my eighth world title this weekend is definitely one I want to tick off my list for 2017.
