Sixteen cross-country and downhill riders will have the opportunity to compete for Australia after their selection in the National Junior Team for the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland September 5-9th 2018.

Seven riders were selected in the cross-country team including current Junior Men’s World Champion, Queensland’s Cameron Wright (QLD), Matthew Dinham who finished in the top 10 at last year’s world championships as well as Teagan Atherstone competing at her second world championships.

Making their debut will be Sam Walsh, Corey Smith and Zoe Cuthbert the reigning Australian junior women’s champion.

“I’m really looking forward to racing in Europe in the weeks leading into the world championships where I will be defending my stripes”, Wright commented.

“And of course excited to be part of another strong team representing Australia.”

Leading the downhill brigade will be Kye A’Hern who has won two junior world cup rounds this year at Fort William and Leogang and Ellie Smith who finished fifth in the junior women at the 2017 World Championships.

A’Hern will be making his world championship debut along with four other riders Aaron Gungl, Nik Barber, Cooper Downey and Jacob Frauenfelder.

Mountain Bike Australia CEO Shane Coppin.

“It’s an exciting time in our junior ranks with some great talent coming through and producing results on the world stage.”

“We want the riders to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the experience at every level,” he said.
