A number of Australian riders competed at the 2018 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Valkenburg-Limburg recently.
Big crowds sidelined the 2900 metres long race course on the famous Cauberg climb to catch every glimpse of the racing over the weekend, which saw the Aussie kit on display.
The junior men began the world championship preceedings on a cold and grey Saturday morning with Annakin Williams (71st) and Zach Laarson (72nd) racing in their first ever world champs.
Saturday also featured the elite women with Stacey Riedel (40th) who was riding at her second world championships and again achieved a career best result.
Holy s#!t. What an experience. And without a doubt the hardest race I have ever done. I’ll do a proper recap in the days to come, but for now, I just want to say thank you. Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to message, comment, cheer, watch, read, or follow along my journey. And thank you to everyone who has supported me. I couldn’t do what I do without you ???????? Here’s an insight into my race day, courtesy of @aron_huysmans, and the Aussie junior boys! #wkvalkenburg #limburg2018
While on Sunday the Under 23 men including Aussies Nicholas Smith (40th), Ben Walkerden (55th), Will Ockenden (57th) and Declan Prosser (59th) battled through the muddy clay during the 5 laps.
Honestly not sure what to say about Yesterday , but first would just like to say a huge thank you to every one that has made this huge season even possible @fujibikesaus @sokhyte @suplestshoesaus , my whole family and everyone else that has helped me…. 2018 World Championships and I am broken a race I would love to forget, really not what I wanted but oh well that’s racing and a wrap up of racing for the season.
