MTBA Junior Development Camps are 5 day / 4 night live in camps designed to increase the experience and knowledge of off road riders aged 14 to 17. The camps are open to riders in the disciplines of Cross-country (XC), Downhill (DH), Gravity Enduro (GE) and Cyclo-cross (CX) and will include riding sessions specific to each discipline as well as a range of off the bike activities as a combined group. The schedule and sessions will vary slightly from camp to camp so as to maximise the use of local trails, infrastructure and coaching staff. Athletes can attend multiple camps if they choose to and activities on camp are designed to allow riders with previous camp experience to participate in more advanced activities.
In addition MTBA accredited coaches and skills instructors are invited to attend the camp to assist the lead coaches and broaden their coaching experience. In particular Level 0 Skills Instructors local to camp venues are encouraged to attend.

Planning for the 2020 camps is underway.
The MTBA National Cup and National Championship events form a fundamental part of MTBA’s junior development programs for riders ranging from intermediate through to elite level. They are also an integral part of the selection process for development squads and junior world championship teams. MTBA recognises that attending some or all of these races can be a significant time and financial burden on families.
In response MTBA has developed a program that gives the opportunity for U17, U19 and U23 aged riders to attend selected National Cup and National Championship events without requiring parent/guardian accompaniment, and under the supervision of experienced and accredited coaches and staff. Athletes are met at the destination airport and are under the care of MTBA staff until they are on their returning flight at the end of the camp.
The travel program encompasses selected events across the disciplines of Olympic Cross Country (XCO), Downhill (DHI), Cyclo-cross (CX) and Gravity Enduro (GE).

The High Performance Race Campaign program revolves around MTBA staffed and facilitated trips to international races encompassing the XCO, DHI, CX and Gravity Enduro disciplines. Targeted at athletes already racing at state and national level primarily in the Junior (17 -18 years old) and U23 categories, the program will also cater for Elite athletes looking to gain international racing experience as a stepping stone to National representation. Successful applicants to the program will have experience racing at state and national level, and demonstrate a commitment to progressing their riding to international level. Locations and events will be selected to give riders experience with longer travel distances, foreign language and food, national team culture, diverse racing conditions and high level competition as well targeting UCI points and/or EWS entry. Flights, accommodation, ground transport, meals, coaching and mechanical support are all coordinated by MTBA staff. Costs will vary from trip to trip.
Expressions of interest are being sought now for a CX development trip to Japan for the Utsunomiya Cup. The trip will be approximately 1 week in duration and include 2 UCI listed C2 races. Flights, accommodation, ground transport, meals as well as coaching and mechanical support will all be coordinated and delivered by MTBA staff. Cost is yet to be finalised.
Please register you interest with, and direct any questions to MTBA’s Sport Manager, Evan James – firstname.lastname@example.org by Tuesday October 2nd with a brief outline of your racing results over the past 12 months, where in Australia you are based, and your preference for either Japan in Dec 2019 or Belgium in Jan 2020.
Details and applications will be released early in 2020.
