The National Road Series (NRS) will return in 2020 with an action-packed nine-day series in the Tweed Region of northern New South Wales beginning 28 November.
The 2020 season was halted after February's opening round, the Melbourne to Warrnambool Classic, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The rebooted AusCycling 2020 NRS will host more than 200 riders from 20 men's and women's teams and will feature several road races, criteriums in addition to both teams and individual time trials.
"We are seeking to provide an opportunity for riders to race this year at the highest level. While it has been a difficult year for all of us, this will help us end 2020 on a high, give exposure for teams and help build excitement into 2021," said Kipp Kaufmann, AusCyclingʼs General Manager – Events & Racing.
An NRS Working Group consisting of teams and organisers was established in April and met on a weekly basis to explore all options for an eventual safe return to racing. As part of the requirements, the field has been limited to those teams who are able to meet the strict COVID safe requirements, including maintaining team bubbles.
"The health and safety of all involved have always been of the utmost importance with strict COVID-19 guidelines put in place which will exceed those laid down by other sporting codes to ensure the health and safety of all participants," added Kaufmann who commended all involved in the planning process.
"The working group containing a number of teams and organisers worked together diligently to develop a strong strategy to help put the Series on.
"We also would like to extend our gratitude to NX Sports, who took the operational lead early to help lead the implementation of a solution for the event."
AusCycling thanks Destination New South Wales and the Tweed Shire Council for their support in making the Series possible.
