The last month has been an exciting time for cycling in the ACT, with several successes shared across our clubs and members hopefully just the tip of what will be a terrific 2021.
Firstly, congratulations to our 2020 ACT AusCycling Track National Championships team of five who performed strongly up in Brisbane before Christmas. A special mention to the support staff team of Ray Gorrell (Manager), Gordon Marcks (Mechanic) and Carolyn Quon (Chaperone). The organisational aspect of National Championships is always a lengthy and arduous task and would not be possible without tireless volunteers such as these three.
Congratulations also to Canberra Cycling Club member Jay Vine who was the winner of the men's Zwift Academy for 2020. Jay’s reward was a professional contract with UCI ProTeam Alpecin-Fenix. Jay has made it no secret of his ambition to earn a professional contract in Europe and I take my hat off to his work ethic and sacrifice. All the best in Europe, Jay!
With races, group rides and community events well and truly back on the agenda, I would like to highlight the importance of recording all of our participation in those organised events using either EntryBoss or Ride Nation. Not only is it a regulatory standard from the ACT Government for COVID-19 contact tracing requirements, but it also greatly assists all of us when it comes to reporting our participation numbers to the ACT and Federal Governments.
Finally, a warm welcome to Joshua Davies at AusCycling - ACT. Joshua is our new Community and Communications Coordinator here in Canberra and I am excited to have him on board.
Neil Skipper - General Manager AusCycling - ACT
